By the way
I'm a writer, musician, artist, and designer based in Vermont. I live with my spouse, our three children, two cats and a dog in a drafty old house on a bit of property that looks out over a too-busy road onto the North Branch of the Winooski River.

I share reflections in various media on community, culture, and place on this blog and in an occasional newsletter (formerly called "The Ministry of Imagination" (2020-25). For several years I co-produced a social design studio called The Think Tank that has yet to be named. (One of these days we'll get the project's archive back online!) I spent the last decade leading human-centered design and organizational change initiatives within a complex multi-hospital healthcare system that serves rural communities in Vermont and northern New York. Before that, I taught art, design, and technology for 8 years at The University of the Arts (R.I.P.) in Philadelphia, where I was also director of the Design for Social Impact and Industrial Design masters programs.
